The Challenges of Moving Locally

Moving locally is something that many people think would be the easier option when it comes to moving. Here at Excel we can help with long distance or local moves. However, we want to warn our customers that moving locally may not be as easy as you think. Moving around the corner, down the block or just across town has its own set of challenges when compared to a long-distance move.

Challenge #1: Easier to Hold onto Belongings

One of the best things about a move is that you can take this time to purge. However, when you are moving locally, many people simply move everything. This can be a challenge when you are downsizing, and it also leads to holding onto those things that you no longer need.

Challenge #2: Moving Locally Results in No Preparation

One of the main challenges we see when going to move someone locally is that they have not prepared their items to be moved. For example, they may stuff many things into bags and just hope for the best. They feel that since the truck is not going a long distance, there is no reason to put everything into properly labeled boxes that are sturdy. However, remember, even a ride across town in the back of any vehicle can cause damage to items. And you are still moving, so the tips that we have given about packing still need to be observed!

Challenge #3: You Never Embrace your New Area

For those who move locally, they may never embrace all that their new area offers. For example, there may be an excellent dog park right around the corner, however, you will probably still drive to the old one since it is not that far away. This type of action can make it harder for a person to adjust to their new area and truly enjoy it, as they are always going back to their old neighborhood.

Remember, local moves can be a great option for someone who finds their dream home or they simply want to move to a new area. However, treat this as you would any move. Pack your items properly, get rid of those things that you no longer need and fully embrace your new neighborhood. And remember, we are here for all your moving needs!
