Wondering how best to prepare for your professional moving company? To be as prepared as possible, use our complete moving preparation checklist to thoroughly get ready for packing up your things, moving day itself, and for your delivery day. Being as prepared as possible will let you have the smoothest and most straightforward moving experience possible.

Preparing for Your Movers

Before your moving crew from Excel Moving & Storage arrives at your home on moving day, there’s plenty for you to do before the day comes.

  • Declutter Your Items

No matter if you’re using our professional packing services or choosing to pack up your household items yourself, you’ll want to eliminate your unneeded or unwanted items. Go through your entire home and figure out what you won’t want to bring with you, and donate, sell, or give them away prior to your packing process getting underway.

Additionally, if you’re going to be using our packing services, get rid of these items before your crew arrives. You should also let your moving representative know of any items you’ll be getting rid of before moving day. This will let them give you the most accurate pricing estimate.

  • Give Your Neighbors a Heads Up

Once you schedule your movers and lock in your moving date, let your neighbors know when a big moving truck might be parked on their block or blocking the street in some way. If you live in an apartment building, you should also let your building manager or leasing office know so they’re aware of when people will be going in and out and so that they can reserve parking for your movers.

  • Hire a Babysitter or Pet Sitter

One of the best things you can do to make your moving day as stress-free as possible is to bring your kids or pets to a daycare or pet boarding service so they can relax and enjoy themselves, while you keep them safe and out of the way while furniture and other heavy objects are moved.

  • Keep Your Valuables with You

Throughout your packing process, it’s easy to pack valuables along with your regular things, but you should always keep them packed separately and kept with you. This will give you peace of mind, while also keeping yourself organized during the packing process.

Along with your valuables, you should also pack yourself a first night bag and extras to have with you while you wait for your items to be delivered to your new home.

  • Practice Clear Communication

You should always be present on moving day and on the delivery date to be there to speak to your moving crew and truck driver. Don’t hesitate to ask your coordinator any questions you might have, and for the number of your delivery driver so you can prepare for the delivery day and lock it in.

  • Plan Your Furniture Placement

Plan out your floor plan in advance before your delivery driver arrives so you can properly direct your movers as to where to place and put your boxes and furniture. Knowing where to place your furniture will make the delivery day easy and straightforward for you and your moving crew.
